So what i am wondering is if it is possible to inset the shower base below the level of the sub floor by removing the 3 4 existing sub floor and replacing it with 1 4 plywood topped by 1 4 fibrerock underlayment.

Slab is slightly uneven in several spots so i m wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what to use to create an even surface before i install the kerdi drain and shower tray.

I am planning on adding a second layer of 3 4 exterior plywood as additional sub floor support before installing the schluter pan.
A recessed shower floor allows for the installation of a sloped mortar bed or a prefabricated shower tray that is flush with the rest of the bathroom floor.
My 48x48 3 4 subfloor is out of level 5 8 from right side exterior wall.
For this shower we used the schluter kerdi drain adaptor because we already had a drain cemented into the floor.
Thin set kerdi pan to that.
I have completely removed the old shower floor tile and deck mud exposing the slab.
Lay a 4 or 6 foot level on the floor from front to back.
If the floor is level the bubble will be in the center section.
Use something like quick pitch and mud bed for the pan and cover with kerdi.

But before i actually installed the new drain i cut the shower tray to the size i needed our size was about 54 and the tray was 60 to cut the tray i used a razor blade and square.
The level is consistent for the extire 48 run.
Tile installation requires grooves in the thinset to create air pockets which facilitate the adhesion of the tile.
This would save me a 1 2 between the sub floor under the shower pan and the sub floor in the rest of the room which should allow.
